2011 Icebreaker: FASA Hotspur Premier, HYS Rovers draw 3-3

HYS Rovers and FASA Hotspur Premier traded goals throughout the match, finishing in a 3-3 tie in U12B Gold play at the PWSI Icebreaker tournament at Howison Park Saturday.

HYS Rovers North opened the scoring early in the first half, with FASA Hotspur Premier tying the match with a goal set up by a cross from the right corner of the field.

Just before halftime, HYS Rovers North scored another to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The two teams traded goal after halftime, but FASA Hotspur Premier, who suffered a tough 5-4 loss to Manchester United of Prince William County in its opening game, scored on HYS Rovers North just before the final whistle to pull out the tie.

“We weren’t giving up,” said Hotspur Premier coach Aaron Plummer. “We were killing ourselves with giving up goals, but we were working hard to produce our own. We had to really work for ours.”

Plummer said he changed up his formation in the last 10 minutes, which helped produce the tying goal. He also noted that the early portion of the season, in which he’s trying to integrate new players into the team, is the perfect time to try different things. He likes his teams to build possession from the back, and going forward, he wants to work on defense and finishing in front of the goal.

“We’ve got some new players on the team, so you have to find out where they fit, experiment with any new formations you want to do or new plays or anything like that,” Plummer said.
