WAGS: AZA Azzurri move to top of U-14 Division 1

By Jimmy LaRoue

Vienna Youth Soccer Patriots Black continued its turnaround with a 7-0 win over Alliance SC Chili Peppers Premier Sunday in WAGS Under-13 Division 1 play, moving to 7-1-1 with just one match remaining on the season.

A win Sunday over NVSC Jr. Majestics 99 would clinch a division title for VYS Patriots Black, who won just a single game this past spring in U-12 Division 1.

Freestate North Red (5-0-3), in second place with two matches to go, has the only shot at catching VYS Patriots Black, but its chances could be rendered moot with a VYS win. Freestate concludes its season with matches Nov. 4-5 against CUGI United 99 and LMVS Patriots Red.

In U-14 Division 1, AZA Azzurri (6-0-1) has moved into a one point lead over VYS Thunder Black (6-2-0) after Azzurri’s 1-0 shutout of TSC SIAFU (5-2-1), who had entered play this past weekend in a first-place tie. SAC Premier Blue (4-0-4), who plays Azzurri Sunday, is also tied with TSC SIAFU for third place with 16 points.

In U-15 Division 1, Herndon Freedom 97 not only qualified for the Virginia State Cup semifinals Saturday, but it followed that up Sunday with a 2-1 win over Maryland Rush Nike 97G  to move to 7-0-1 on the season. With a nine point lead over FSC Xtreme (4-2-1), it can clinch the division title with a tie against Xtreme Nov. 4.

Chantilly Revolution 95 (4-0-1) has moved ahead of Lee-Mount Vernon Soccer Club Patriots (4-2-0) after Chantilly defeated ASC Premier Gold (0-5-1) 2-1, and LMVSC fell to FPYC Wildcats Blue 2-0. Chantilly and LMVSC face off Sunday.
