Champions crowned at 20th annual Stafford Soccer St. Patrick’s Day Tournament

Stafford, Va. – The 20th Annual Stafford Soccer St. Patrick’s Day Tournament concluded Sunday evening, just as sleet and snow hit the Stafford/Fredericksburg area. Although tournaments past have seen warmer and sunnier weekends, this year’s event went off without a hitch.

Over two hundred and seventy teams from across the states of Virginia and Maryland competed in at least three games apiece, for a total of 433 games of soccer. After every game, MVP awards were handed out by each coach to the best player on the opposing team, which celebrated the sportsmanship theme of the tournament.

One of the great stories coming out of the weekend was the success of Stafford’s U12 Girls White team. In their first match on Saturday morning they were defeated by a score of 3-0 against a strong NVSC Majestics White team. Hard work and hustle took them to a battle in the semifinals, where they won in PKs. Their final match Sunday afternoon put them up against the same NVSC team that had beaten them the day before, but this time Stafford Revolution came up the winner with a score of 2-0.
