Vienna YS adds Bill Delaney as Assistant Technical Director
VIENNA, VA (Via Vienna Youth Soccer) – Vienna Youth Soccer, Inc. (VYS) has announced that Bill Delaney has joined its technical staff as an Assistant Technical Director with responsibility for the U9-U12 boys age groups.
bill delaneyDelaney joins VYS from the Chantilly Soccer Club. Previously, he served for over a decade as an Age Group Director at McLean Youth Soccer, with responsibility for both the boys and girls programs in the younger age groups.
Delaney is an award-winning and highly accomplished youth coach who has been coaching soccer in the Northern Virginia area for over thirty-three years. In 2007, he was recognized by the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) as the statewide Competitive Coach of the Year. He has guided one of his youth teams to a Virginia State Cup championship, one to a State Cup final, and another to a semi-final appearance. Other teams he has coached and overseen at their inception have gone on to win several state championships with a majority of home grown players still on those teams that started in Bill’s developmental program at U9. He has also served as a collegiate men’s assistant soccer coach at Marymount University in Arlington, VA and as a VYSA State and Regional Olympic Development Program (ODP) Coach for multiple boys’ teams.

Delaney also brings a wealth of management experience to VYS. He served previously as the General Manager of Curt Onalfo Soccer, a professional soccer organization led by former D.C. United head coach and current L.A. Galaxy Assistant Coach Curt Onalfo.

Delaney holds a National C and Youth Coaching License from the U.S. Soccer Federation. He grew up playing soccer in Springfield, VA and began his coaching career with the Springfield Youth Club. When not coaching soccer, Bill has served as a member of the fire service for over thirty years, first as a volunteer fire fighter with the Burke Volunteer Fire Department and then a career fire fighter with the City of Fairfax Fire & Rescue. After his retirement from active firefighting, he joined the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Department in Maryland, managing the department’s fire and injury prevention programs and social media/digital platforms.
