Report: Kevin Coleman turns ODP Region I Euro trip into contract in Germany

The Fauquier Times is reporting that local Kettle Run High School star and Baltimore Celtic club player Kevin Coleman will be moving to Germany within the next two weeks, to live and play soccer for FC Kaiserslautern’s Under-19 team under a two-year youth contract.

The contract is not yet a professional offer. But it could be once he turns 18, Colemen seemed to make it quite clear to the Times that would be his first choice, telling the outlet, “I still considered college. But this route was always my No. 1. I want to go professional.”

That decision looks to leave yet another crop of top U.S. college programs left wanting, as Coleman told the Times he’ll notify schools such as George Mason, Villanova and Virginia that he’s off the market as soon as he signs.

The midfielder appears to have cemented his opportunity during a recent U.S. Youth Soccer Region I ODP European trip, where his team participated in a tournament that also featured FC Kaiserslautern’s U-19 teams. Coleman was the star of the tournament, winning the “Golden Boot” as the top overall scorer with six goals, including two goals in two matches against his future team.

Afterwards, the Times reports, Kaiserslautern invited him back for a full evaluation. Coleman left on July 10, and returned Sunday, July 26.
