Chicago Fire Academy’s Jack Shaw commits to University of Wisconsin

Jack Shaw of the Chicago Fire’s U18 US Soccer Development Academy team and 2016 recruit has committed to play soccer for the University of Wisconsin of the Big 10 Conference.

In his 5th year with the Chicago Fire Academy, Shaw, born in 1998, has been a four-year starter and contributor on the Fire’s U16 and U18 teams. The attacking midfielder played for the Chicago Fire in the Generation Adidas Cup in both the 1997 and 1998 cycle years. Shaw was called in to train with the Chicago Fire’s first team this fall.

An honor roll student at Marquette University High School, Shaw will graduate from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin school in May before enrolling at the University of Wisconsin in the fall of 2016 with a focus on Political Science.

“I was drawn to the University of Wisconsin because of Coach Trask and his experience in developing and working with players that have competed at the highest level”, said Shaw. “The ability to continue my soccer development at a world-class academic institution that competes in the Big 10 and has a tradition of athletic excellence in many sports made Wisconsin a great fit.”

After commuting 5 days a week from Milwaukee to Chicago over the last several years, Shaw noted, “I’m excited to come back to Wisconsin after 5 great years training and playing in Chicago with some of the best players in the country. The Chicago Fire coaches and the environment they create in an MLS academy has prepared me well for the next step in my development. I’m excited to be a Badger next year.”

Shaw began his soccer career as a member of the Bavarian Soccer Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is a staff coach in the off-season with the Milwaukee Kickers youth soccer program.
