Virginia Tech women’s soccer adds three recruits for 2016

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Via Virginia Tech) – Virginia Tech women’s soccer head coach Chugger Adair has announced the addition of three student-athletes to the 2016 recruiting class.

The group includes two players from Pennsylvania, Katherine Roth from Reading and Jessica Boytim from North Huntingdon, and Lilly Weber from Springfield, Virginia. Roth, Boytim and Weber join Mikayla Mance, Jaylyn Thompson, Bridget Patch, Jordan Hemmen and Chandler McDaniel, who all signed with Tech earlier in the signing period.

“We are excited to announce the addition of three more student-athletes. These three players will provide strength, balance and character to our team both on the field as well as off the field. The three all have versatility, athleticism and tremendous soccer savvy, which will allow them to make an impact from the start.” Adair said.

Boytim comes to the Hokies from Pittsburgh. She attends Norwin High School and plays club soccer for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy. At Norwin under coach Lauren Karcher, she helped lead her team to the 2015 WPIAL State Championship with a perfect 22-0 record. She was a three-time all-section and two-time All-WPIAL selection. She also was named WPIAL All-State First Team in 2015 and served as team captain as a junior and senior. For Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy, she helped guide the team, coached by Scott Gibson, to the finals of the USYS National Championship.

“Jess Boytim is a tremendous athlete with good strength, power and pace. She has played all positions across the back line, during the recruiting process. We feel she will add to the depth on our defensive line and compete for a starting spot right from the start. She provides great recovery speed and plays with grit and determination, which will fit perfectly into our defensive mentality,” Adair said.

Roth joins the Hokies from Reading, Pennsylvania where she attends Pope John Paul II High School and plays for coach Stewart Sherk. Roth plays club soccer for Continental FC for coaches Leighton Walters and Peye Garcia. At Pope John Paul II, Roth helped lead the team to the division championship and the conference finals. The team was district semi-finalists. As a senior, she was first-team all-conference, All-Pottstown Mercury and all-area and was a team captain.

“Katherine Roth is a strong, athletic, attacking-minded player with good size and pace. She will fit right into our attack, as she can play on either side. She is good with both feet, good on the dribble and has a strong attacking mentality. Katherine will bring strength, size and depth to our wide players. She plays with a workman-like mentality that will be an asset to our program,” Adair said.

Weber, from Springfield, Virginia, currently attends Bishop Ireton High School for coach Gino Leon and plays her club soccer for FC Virginia ‘98. She was a four-year starter who was selected all-conference all four years in high school, was a three-time All-Met selection and was the team MVP and leading scorer as a junior and senior. With FC Virginia ‘98, she was the team’s leading goal scorer. Prior to FC Virginia ‘98, she played four years for ODP Virginia, which was national finalists in 2014 and Region 1 champions in 2014.

“Lilly Weber is a charismatic, technical player. During the recruiting process, Lilly has played on all lines of the field. She most likely will play more as a midfield player at the start here at Virginia Tech, as this will best showcase her talents and fit well with our team.
