CHICAGO (Via U.S. Soccer) – For the fifth consecutive World Cup Qualifying cycle, the U.S. Soccer Federation has selected Columbus, Ohio, to host its biggest match outside of a World Cup and one of the biggest international rivalries in international soccer.
MAPFRE Stadium will be the site of USA-Mexico on Nov. 11 as the teams open the final round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The match will be broadcast live on FS1 and Univision, with kickoff time still to be determined.
The United States has dominated the previous four home World Cup qualifiers against Mexico in Columbus, winning each game 2-0 that inspired the rallying cry “Dos a Cero” for USA fans.
“It means a lot to us to play Mexico in Columbus,” said U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. “Columbus is for us what Azteca Stadium is for them. It’s a game where emotions will go through the roof, and we need to have our crowd behind us bringing their voice against our biggest rival. We know they will. Columbus will rock.”
