LEESBURG, VA (Via Loudoun Soccer) – Loudoun Soccer has announced former U.S. Women’s National Team head coach April Heinrichs as guest speaker in its January session of the Women’s Coaching & Leadership Series.

Heinrichs served as Head Coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team from 2000 to 2004, leading the team to a Gold medal in the 2004 Olympics, Silver in the 2000 Olympics, and a 3rd place finish in the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She’s also coached collegiately at Princeton University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Virginia.

Heinrichs recently served as Technical Director for the Women’s Youth National Teams from 2011-2018, overseeing the program’s growth and development. Most notably, she was named the 2018 winner of the Werner Fricker Builder Award, U.S. Soccer’s highest honor bestowed upon individuals who dedicate at least 20 years of service to the game of soccer and its development in the country.

As a player, she captained the U.S. Women’s National Team to their first World Cup title in 1991, and won three NCAA titles at University of North Carolina. Heinrichs was named U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year twice, and was one of the first American women to play professionally overseas.

The session – The U.S. Women’s Soccer Landscape – will take place on Wednesday, January 23 in the Riverside High School auditorium from 7-9 PM. All coaches are welcome to attend the Women’s Coaching & Leadership Series – Rec and Travel coaches within Loudoun Soccer; high school and collegiate soccer coaches; and coaches from other soccer organizations.

Admission is free, although online registration for each clinic is required, as space is limited. To register, and for additional information, click here.

The inaugural series, which commenced in November 2018, features a selection of speakers from both the sporting and non-sporting worlds. In addition to the guest speaker, each session includes a coaching planning exercise associated with the theme of the evening. The experience is intended to empower female coaches and develop their leadership both on and off the field.

Loudoun Soccer previously welcomed Beth Cabrera and Kristi Beckman as speakers in the series. In addition to Heinrichs as its January presenter, the club will host Todd Bramble, George Mason University Women’s Soccer Head Coach, in February.
