U-17 MNT fell 1-0 to Portugal
The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team fell 1-0 to Portugal in the teams’ second Group B match of the 40th Mondial Minimes.
The loss against the Iberians leaves the U.S. in second place in the group. The four first-place teams will play a semifinal and final to determine the tournament winner. The U.S. will face off against Japan, who finished second in Group C, at 5 p.m. local time (11 a.m. ET) on April 7 for a chance to finish in fifth place. The other two second-place teams include Mexico from Group A and China from Group C.
Teams that will play for first through fourth place include the hosts, France, from Group A, Portugal from Group B, England from Group C and Russia from Group D.
Head coach Richie Williams’ squad will play its final match on April 9 to determine the team’s final ranking in the tournament.
