FC Greater Boston, New England Revolution battle for first in U-16 Development Academy play

By Jimmy LaRoue

FC Greater Boston and the New England Revolution U-16s are the top two teams in the Development Academy’s Northeast Division, and they are set to face off Saturday.

Both teams have allowed just two goals in four games, with FC Greater Boston (4-0-0) in first place and the Revs (3-1-0) right behind. The two teams will play again May 29. Nathan Pomeroy leads FC Greater Boston with 10 goals, while Harrison Swartz has six and Alex Ainscough five. For the Revs, Mawolo Gisse leads the team in goals with nine.

A smattering of Frontier Division games take place Friday, with the bulk of the schedule being played out the rest of the weekend. Five weekends, including this one, remain in the Development Academy’s regular season.

Notes: U.S. Soccer named Minnesota Thunder Academy U-18 forward Erick Bloom its player of the week after scoring five goals in two games last weekend, a brace in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Real Colorado and a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Colorado Rush. … With the U.S. U-18s taking part in the Lisbon International Tournament in Lisbon, Portugal beginning next Tuesday, 15 current Development Academy players and three ex-DA players will be taking part, including Jordan Allen of Real Salt Lake AZ’s U-18s, who is also seeing time with RSL’s MLS reserve team.
