Kansas adds to 2024 signing class, inking recruits from San Diego Surf and San Juan SC
LAWRENCE, Kan. – With under a month until the first regular season soccer match, Kansas Head Soccer Coach Nate Lie has finalized the roster for the 2024 season with two freshmen joining the squad.
Jordan Fjelstad and Shea Ryan will both be with the program when the team starts preseason training at the end of the month.
Kansas will have 15 returners and 15 newcomers on its 2024 roster. The newcomers include 11 freshmen and four transfers.
Jordan Fjelstad
Defender • Orange County, Calif. • San Diego Surf ECNL (Tesoro High School)
• Comes to Kansas as an incoming freshman from Orange County, California
• Helped San Diego Surf win the ECNL National Championship in 2024
• All-Conference Second Team selection in 2022
• Southwest Sonoran Conference Champions in 2024
• ECNL National Round of 16 qualifier with San Diego Surf in 2024
• Surf Cup Champions in 2023
• Two-time letterwinner at Tesoro High School after playing her freshman and sophomore years
Shea Ryan
Forward • Roseville, Calif. • San Juan Soccer Club ECNL (Granite Bay High School)
• Comes to Kansas as an incoming freshman from Roseville, California
• Currently plays for San Juan Soccer Club ECNL, which is widely considered the top league in the country for youth players
• Transitioned from playing soccer recreationally to competitively the summer before entering high school
• Played recreationally for Roseville Soccer Club
• Additionally, played for Iron Rose FC from the WPSL, a semi-professional league
• Received player of the game honors for Iron Rose FC as the youngest player on the field
• Recipient of the President’s Achievement Award and Academic Merit Award in 2023
Kansas has 19 regular season matches on its 2024 schedule, including 11 Big 12 Conference games. The Jayhawks have nine matches at Rock Chalk Park and 10 contests on the road this upcoming year. The season will start on Aug. 15 at South Dakota State and the home schedule will begin on Aug. 22 against Tulsa.
