Canada Women’s National Team head coach Bev Priestman suspended amid spying scandal
The Canadian Olympic Committee has removed the Canadian Women’s National Team Head Coach Bev Priestman from the Canadian Olympic Team, due to her suspension by Canada Soccer.
Assistant coach Andy Spence will lead the Women’s National Team for the remainder of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Canada’s Olympic soccer team is in the midst of a controversy after a member of its staff was caught operating a drone in the direct vicinity of the training field for New Zealand, one of Canada’s upcoming opponents in the Olympics.
According to a report by TSN, it has also come to light that Canada’s National Team staff members, on both the men’s and women’s sides, have been spying on opponents for multiple years, using drone surveillance.
Canada is the reigning Olympic champion on the women’s side, taking gold at the Tokyo Games.
