DENVER, Colorado – Two dozen teams were awarded championships at the National Cup XXIII Finals, held at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado, July 18-25. Boys teams played July 18-22, while the girls teams competed July 21-25.

The National Cup is US Club Soccer’s longest-running competition, celebrating its 23rd edition this summer. The Finals is the culminating event of a cup-based championship series that includes qualifying state cups and National Cup Regionals. More than 8,000 teams competed in this year’s series, including 240 U-13 through U-19 boys and girls teams at the National Cup Finals. The tournament field, which included teams from 22 states, provided a developmentally stimulating environment with geographical diversity, contrasting styles and championship pressure. Winning teams endured three group stage games, before advancing to semifinal and final rounds.

———

On the girls side of the competition, FC United Iowa was the big winner, clinching both championship games it participated in on the finale. Fury FC also competed in two championship games, winning one of those. That U-14 Girls Super Group champion Fury FC also won the U-14 girls NPL Finals title just one week ago, capping an extraordinary couple weeks in Denver.

On the boys side, three clubs won a pair of titles: Anaheim FC, Central Illinois United and VSA Rush. No teams repeated as champions from last year’s National Cup Finals, although West Side Alliance came close – falling in the U-19 Super Group finale. Last summer, West Side Alliance won both the U-19 Super Group and U-19 Premier Group.

The title winners represented eight qualifying events. The leading qualifying events were the SOCAL State Cup (5 champions), Iowa State Cup (4), National Cup XXIII Midwest Regional (4) and the National Cup XXII Southeast Regional (4).
