Florida State announces promotion of Bobby Shuttleworth to associate head coach

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State soccer head coach Brian Pensky has announced assistant coach Bobby Shuttleworth has been promoted to associate head coach.

“Bobby is a big reason for our success over the past two seasons,” Brian Pensky said. “He is an excellent on-field coach and his off-field abilities on an individual and team basis are high-level. His communication with our players and managing our team is fantastic. We are very lucky to have him on this coaching staff.”

Shuttleworth came to Florida State in 2022 after finishing a 14-year career in MLS and has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach under Pensky. Shuttleworth started his MLS career in 2009 after playing collegiately at Buffalo. During his 14-year career, he spent time with four different MLS clubs, most recently with Atlanta United in 2022. He made a total of 238 regular season and playoff appearances and ranks 13th all-time among MLS goalkeepers in regular season games played (232).

“It’s an honor to be given the responsibility of being the associate head coach of this program,” Bobby Shuttleworth said. “I’m incredibly appreciative to Brian for the opportunity to continue to grow as a coach and help lead the team in this new role.”

Shuttleworth served as the main coach for the Florida State goalkeepers the past two seasons and was vital in Cristina Roque, Addie Todd, and the FSU defense’s success. FSU allowed just one goal in the 2023 NCAA Tournament and allowed just two goals in the final 10 games of the season. Roque earned Third-Team All-America honors under Shuttleworth and had a 0.62 goals against average in 2023. Roque went on to be drafted by the Utah Royals in the third round of the NWSL Draft. Todd has kept five shutouts in the first six games of her Seminole career.

The Seminoles were also the recipients of the 2023 National Coaching Staff of the Year honor in which Shuttleworth, Aaron Brunner, and Andrew Hudson were part of.

Florida State has concluded regular season non-conference play unbeaten for a fifth straight season and will be back home on Thursday against Syracuse.
