Florida State signs USWYNT midfielder Yuna McCormack on transfer from Virginia

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State soccer team has signed junior midfielder Yuna McCormack from the transfer portal. The U.S. international has represented the Stars and Stripes at multiple levels and scored two goals at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to help secure a bronze medal.

The former Virginia midfielder played and started in 28 total games for the Cavaliers. She recorded five assists in her freshman season and scored against Princeton in the NCAA Tournament First Round her sophomore season. McCormack was named to the 2023 ACC All-Freshman Team while also earning ACC All-Academic Team and ACC Honor Roll honors.

McCormack was ranked the No. 2 midfielder coming out of high school according to TopDrawerSoccer and the No. 6 player on the 2023 IMG Top 150 incoming freshman list. She also played club soccer at ECNL side Bay Area Surf Soccer Club.

The midfielder has been representing the United States Women’s Youth National Teams since 2018 and has made competitive appearances at the U-15, U-16, and U-20 levels. She was a winner at the 2018 CONCACAF Girls’ U-15 Championship before recording playing time at the UEFA Development Tournament at the U-16 level. McCormack made her U-20 debut in the lead-up to the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and scored two goals in the group stage of the tournament to help propel the United States to a third-place finish.

McCormack is the daughter of Michael and Estuko McCormack and brother to Jimmy McCormack. Her father was a professional triathlete and two-time Ironman Canada winner while her mother originates from Japan. McCormack will join the team in the spring.
