Megan Burke promoted to head coach for Boston University women’s soccer program

BOSTON – Megan Burke, who has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach for the Boston University women’s soccer team, has been named the third head coach in program history, as announced by director of athletics Drew Marrochello.

“Megan has made a strong impression not only within the women’s soccer program but throughout our entire department since arriving here in 2022,” said Marrochello. “Her growth as a coach and as a leader has helped to continue the proud tradition of BU women’s soccer, and we are looking forward to having her guide and develop our student-athletes for years to come.”

Burke’s promotion comes on the heels of the Terriers’ fifth Patriot League tournament title. BU has combined for a 15-6-6 conference record over the past three seasons while reaching the semifinals each year.

“I am incredibly grateful to Drew MarrochelloBrittany Kane and Kate Bergstrom for this opportunity to lead the women’s soccer program here at Boston University,” said Burke. “BU has been my home for the past three seasons, and it is a truly special place to be. I’m excited to continue working with the amazing student-athletes here and to build on the strong foundation of success that defines BU Women’s Soccer.”

This past fall, the Terriers became the fourth PL team since league expansion in 2013 to go unbeaten in conference play, sporting a 5-0-4 record to earn the No. 2 seed before claiming the tournament title at top-seeded Bucknell on penalty kicks.

In 2023, the Terriers’ 31 goals and 29 assists were the most in a single season since 2015, and 2011, respectively. In all, the team has combined for 19 All-Patriot League selections during Burke’s time with the program.

Burke joined the Terriers in 2022 following three years at Fairfield during which she helped the Stags total 20 wins in the two full seasons during her tenure and reach the 2019 MAAC championship game as the No. 2 seed.

Fairfield recorded 12 All-MAAC selections with Burke on the coaching staff, which included two United Soccer Coaches All-Region honorees and the 2019 MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year.

In 2021, Burke was named one of 30 selections for the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30, a program with a year-long education and mentorship opportunity designed to support up-and-coming members of the coaching profession.

Prior to her time at Fairfield, Burke served as a graduate assistant coach at New Mexico State for two seasons. In her first year in 2017, the Aggies racked up nine wins, one shy of the program record, and had three All-WAC selections.

A native of Shelton, Connecticut, Burke played collegiate soccer at Massachusetts and was a four-year starter while earning a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology.
