U.S. U-20 MNT draws Qatar 2-2 in World Cup tune-up
CHICAGO (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team found the back of the net late in the second half to come out with a 2-2 draw against fellow World Cup side Qatar earlier today at Red Bull Arena, home of FC Red Bull Slazburg in Wals-Siezenheim, Austria.
Amando Moreno put the U.S. ahead early in the game with a tally in the 22nd minute after side stepping a defender and taking a hard shot right to the goal from the top of the box.
Qatar wasted no time coming from the half and converted on a penalty kick in the 46th minute to equalize the match. A second goal came in the 75th, giving the team a 2-1 lead over the USA.
Defender Conor Donovan saw an opportunity following a U.S. corner kick in the 84th minute and found the ball after it was put into play to send it to the back of the net for the 2-2 and the eventual final score.
Following this game, the U-20’s will resume training in Austria and then face Croatia on April 25, also at Red Bull Arena.
The camp is serving as the USA’s continued preparations for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will take place in New Zealand from May 30-June 20.
