WASHINGTON (Via George Washington University) – The George Washington women’s soccer squad opens 2015 action with a pair of matches over the weekend in Fullerton, California, at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Stadium. The Colonials will take on UC Riverside on Friday evening before taking on the host Titans in a Sunday matinee.

In 2014, the Colonials posted a 12-6-1 overall record while earning their second consecutive bid to the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-3-1 conference mark. GW was picked to finish fourth in the A-10 Preseason Coaches Poll, and redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Miranda Horn was tabbed to the Preseason All-Conference Team.

UC Riverside also opens its season on Friday and was projected to finish eighth in the Big West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Highlanders finished last season with an overall 8-7-3 record and return 18 letterwinners – including 10 starters – in 2015. Senior Tyler Cunningham led the squad with 16 points on three goals and 10 assists in 2014, while junior Blanca Barrio posted a team-leading four goals. UC Riverside and GW will meet for the first time on Friday.

Cal State Fullerton takes on Liberty on Friday before facing the Colonials on Sunday. Last season, the Titans went 10-8-4 overall and claimed the Big West Tournament crown to earn an NCAA Tournament bid, and they were picked to finish second in 2015 in the league’s preseason poll. Cal State Fullerton returns 14 letterwinners and seven starters, highlighted by redshirt-senior Rebecca Wilson, who scored a team-leading 10 goals in 2014. Sunday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Titans and Colonials.

Friday’s match against UC Riverside is slated to begin at 8 p.m. ET, while kickoff for Sunday’s bout at Cal State Fullerton is at 5 p.m. ET.
