PK win over England sends U.S. U-16 BNT to fifth place match in Italy
FIUMICELLO, Italy (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-16 Boys’ National Team defeated England 6-5 in a penalty shootout to advance to the fifth place match at the 13th Tournament Delle Nazioni.
The game went back and forth between the U.S. and England with the U.S. tallying the first two goals just minutes apart. John Hilton opened the scoring in the seventh minute off a Marcelo Palomino pass. In the 10th minute, Konrad De la Fuente tallied thanks to Palomino again. England countered in the 18th minute when Rayhaan Tulloch scored. Just two minutes later, the U.S. increased its lead to two when De la Fuente assisted Jose Rivas, sending the young Yanks into halftime with a 3-1 advantage.

England started the second half strong when Arvin Appiah scored in the 37th minute. The U.S. increased its lead in the 43rd minute after Alexsi Morel assisted Gabriel Segal to put the USA up 4-2.
In the final 10 minutes, England’s Tulloch scored his second goal in the 60th minute and Appiah equalized in the 67th to send the match directly to penalty kicks.
After five rounds, both teams were tied with five goals apiece, when England forward Zico Asare missed his penalty, giving the U.S. the advantage. Captain Taylor Booth kept his nerve to slot the ball just past the keeper for the U.S. victory.
