U.S. U-15 Boys National Team completes Croatia tournament
ZAGREB, Croatia (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-15 Boys’ National Team finished the four-team tournament in Zagreb, Croatia, where Giovanni Reyna and Gilbert Fuentes scored for the USA in a 1-2-0 effort.
The first match kicked off against Montenegro on June 2, and the U.S. took control from the opening whistle. Forward Reyna tallied for the U.S. in just the first minute of the match, being the only goal to secure the U.S. victory.
On June 3, the U.S. faced Croatia, where the host country took the lead in the 16th minute with a goal from Josko Gvardiol, ending the first half with a 1-0 scoreline. Minutes into the second half, Croatia tallied again as Karlo Miljanic put a ball past U.S. goalkeeper Alex Bobocea in the 38th minute. Minutes later, U.S. sub Fuentes narrowed the lead with a goal in the 41st minute, but it wouldn’t be enough as the U.S. fell 2-1.
In its last match on June 5, the USA fell to Serbia 2-0 with two first half goals by Andrej Blagojevic and Edvin Eleven in the 13th and 26 minute, respectively.
This was the second tournament of the year for the U-15s as they finished their first tournament in April as the 2016 International Festival of Futbol champions in Argentina, defeating Club Atletico (5-1), drawing Newell’s Old Boys (2-2) and defeating Uruguay (2-0) in the title game.
