AUCKLAND, New Zealand (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-19 Women’s National Team defeated the New Zealand Women’s National Team 2-1 as forward Marissa Everett scored twice in a four-minute span in the second half to pull the USA level and then ahead.

It was the first international match of the year for the U.S. U-19s who were facing a New Zealand side that was a mixture of players who will likely play in the Olympics with the rest of the lineup featuring younger players.

This trip will feature two more games for the USA as it faces the New Zealand U-20 WNT on June 17 and June 19.

New Zealand is preparing for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held from Nov. 13-Dec. 3 in Papua New Guinea and was drawn into a difficult Group C with the USA, as well as France and Ghana.

The USA fell behind just eight minutes into the game as Jane Barnett scored for the Ferns and the match remained that way until 11 minutes into the second half.

The equalizer came when Cecilia Gee played a ball to the left wing for Shannon Simon who sent a high cross into the goal area for Everett to volley home first-time.

Less than four minutes later, Everett bagged the game-winner as New Zealand attempted to clear a ball that deflected off Gee and then down the left flank. Gee won a foot race to the ball and then pulled it back into the seam for Everett who finished into the lower left corner.
