STORRS, Conn. (Via University of Connecticut) – Another game-winning goal goes to redshirt-senior Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.), who erased the possibility of overtime in the 89th minute to push UConn (2-0) past Boston University (0-2) 1-0 on Sunday.

Senior goalkeeper Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.) earned another shutout in the close competition with the Terriers, recording three saves on the afternoon.

+Final Stats

UConn outshot BU 9-2 in the first half. Ribeiro put up two promising scoring chances in the first half for the Huskies. The first came in the 17th minute when she got a shot off from the top of the box and BU goalkeeper, Bridget Conway, had to tip it over the crossbar.

With less than 15 minutes to play in the first half, the UConn offense was putting pressure in front of BU’s goal. Ribeiro brought the ball in low on the left hand side and shot it across the front of the net and the ball just trickled past the right corner.

The UConn defense, anchored by starters Toriana Patterson (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Sabrina Toole (Westport, Conn.) and Heidi Druehl (Stamford, Conn.), held down the backline for the entirety of the game, allowing just six shots the entire game and only three of them were on net.

After 80 minutes of scoreless play, it appeared the scoring drought would end when senior Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) ran in on a breakaway, but she was pulled down the BU defense and game remained tied at zero.

With overtime apparent and just over a minute to play, Hill dribbled the ball down, past it off to Ribeiro at the top of the box, and Ribeiro buried it home to claim the win.

The Huskies will hit the road for the first away game of the season at Harvard on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in Boston.
