Potomac area NCAA women’s soccer round-up: August 19-21, 2016

The two Potomac area teams that entered the season ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll swept the opening weekend, as No. 4 Virginia and No. 17 Virginia Tech each jumped out to 2-0-0 records.

The 2016 Hampton University women’s soccer season opened Saturday in the steamy heat of Jersey City, N.J. as the Lady Pirates and Saint Peter’s played to a 2-all tie at Jaroschak Field in the season opener for both teams.

Howard vs. Radford game ruled no contest on Sunday
The Howard women’s soccer game against Radford has been officially ruled a “no contest”, according to NCAA rules. The teams were able to play the first 45 minutes of action before heavy rain and lightning delayed the start of the second half and the match was unable to be restarted within the necessary timeframe.

Late goal puts Tennessee over Liberty on Sunday
The Liberty women’s soccer team looked to rebound from Friday night’s season-opening loss to Virginia, squaring off with Tennessee on Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium. In a competitive game that remained scoreless until the 77th minute, the Volunteers managed to strike with a late goal from Rylie O’Keefe, defeating the Lady Flames, 1-0.
