DALLAS, Texas (Via Dallas Cup) – The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup has announced that three Major League Soccer academy teams have accepted invitations to the elite Gordon Jago Super Group. The Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC academies will join local academy FC Dallas to round out a competitive top bracket for 2017.

FC Dallas is competing in their seventh Gordon Jago Super Group since 2010. Last year, FC Dallas reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual champion, English side Everton FC. In 2016, the FC Dallas U-18 team won the U.S.S.D.A National Championship. In a recent ranking of MLS academies by Top Drawer Soccer, FC Dallas took the top spot, while Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC both cracked the top ten of the list finishing fourth and sixth, respectively.

Making their third consecutive Gordon Jago Super Group appearance, and fourth appearance overall, Real Salt Lake looks to win their first “Boot and Ball” championship trophy in 2017. Real Salt Lake currently sits in first place in the Western Conference of the U-17/18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy league with 15 wins and 3 losses. Canadian side Toronto FC is returning to Dr Pepper Dallas Cup after debuting in the tournament in 2013. They look to become the first Canadian champion across all age groups since 1988.

2017’s Gordon Jago Super Group features the world-renowned Manchester United academy and 2016 Super Group champions Everton of the English Premier League, two-time Super Group champion Coritiba of Brazil, and Liga MX champions Tigres, among others.
