On Saturday, New York City FC earned a tough 1-0 win over FC Virginia at the WCFC Complex. Virginia held back NYCFC’s potent offense for most of the match, thanks in part to their stellar defense (four goals allowed- second lowest in the USSDA Atlantic Division). Substitute Liliane Osuna provided NYCFC with the game-winner in the 62nd minute.
Virginia Development Academy extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a 6-3 win over Sky Blue-NYSC. Midfielder Brooke Potter’s hat trick in the first half (11’, 14’, and 28’) set the tone for VDA, giving them an advantage leading into the second. Sky Blue-NYSC cut Virginia’s lead in the second half to one with goals from Ashley Moon (46’) and Erica Petrie (49’). VDA put things away late with goals from forward Olivia Simmons (52’ and 79’) and forward Lilly Lovell (63’). A Shelby Dejana goal in the 67th minute gave NYSC some hope late, but it wasn’t enough to prevent VDA from earning their fifth win in as many games.
On Sunday, Boston Breakers Academy earned their first win on the season in a 3-1 effort over Cedar Stars Academy Monmouth. Hayley Houston (26’ and 47’) scored twice while Brooke Haarala (35’) and Amber Strapponi (43’) added single goals for the NWSL-affiliated side. Cedar Stars lone goal came courtesy of Ashley Dietrich in the 74th minute.

The Fire scored first with a goal from Lana Whittfield in the fifth minute, but Charlotte struck back thanks to Sidney Minarik (20’) and Emily Morris (34’). Concorde got a second themselves before the end of the half from midfielder Simi Awujo (39’), setting up a frenetic second half between the Southeast’s two top sides. In the end, Concorde would took the three points courtesy of a late game-winner from forward Ayo Oke in the 80th minute.

It was a long drive up I-95 for Washington Spirit Academy-Virginia, but it was well worth it as they were able to pull together a close 3-2 win over Long Island SC. Carolina Nuttall and Taylor Bryan put Long Island on the board first with goals in the 34th and 39th minutes, respectively. But Washington stormed right back in the second half with Jasmine Hamid narrowing Long Island’s lead to one with her strike in the 77th minute. Jada Konte equalized for the Spirit just two minutes later, and then put them ahead for good in the 86th minute.
The Spirit followed Saturday’s impressive with another quality effort on the road on Sunday, this time downing FC Fury 4-1. Konte (83’) earned her third goal of the weekend while Caitlin Sutton (49’) and Lauren Teuschl (61’) joined her this time in the scoring barrage. Washington was also the beneficiaries of a Fury own goal in the 86th minute. FC Fury’s lone goal came from Brianna Jablonowski in the 37th minute.

Virginia Development Academy earned their first road win on the season with a 3-0 win over Sky Blue-NYSC. Goalkeeper Katie Pierson and the VDA back line combined for a clean sheet against a Sky Blue side that had scored 17 goals on the season, third most in the Northeast Division. In the second half, VDA’s offense took over the game with goals from midfielders Yanaira Velasquez (61’) and Anne Darling (74’), and forward Mikayla Schuetz (90’).
On Sunday, VDA fell 2-1 to NYCFC on the road. Kailey Brenner (22’) and Alexandra Vucenovic (72’) each scored to give NYCFC a little bit of a cushion late into the match. That turned out to be very important for the home side as VDA narrowed their lead to one with a penalty kick goal from Alicia Keo in the 89th minute. But NYCFC held on and after earning a tough 1-1 draw FC Virginia on Saturday, took four points away from the weekend. They would have had six had Angela Aguero’s strike in the 19th minute held up as the game’s lone goal. But FC Virginia persisted and finally in the 85th minute, they found their opening with Olivia Migli providing the equalizer.
NTH Tophat held onto first place in the Southeast Division with a 3-0 win over United Futbol Academy. Hannah White (18’), Madeline Simpson (70’), and Maggie Graham (85’) all scored for the NTH in their winning effort, helping extend their team’s undefeated record to five games. That’s good for the Georgia-based side as two of their nearest competitors in the standings, IMG Academy (4-1-0, 12 points) and United Soccer Alliance (4-0-1, 13 points), also won on the weekend. IMG defeated the Orlando Pride 4-0 with goals from Enzi Broussard (58’ and 78’), Ryann Mushkin (40’) and Kamryn Price (89’).
Meanwhile, United Soccer Alliance earned their three points based off of a 5-2 win over Boca United Football Club. Kai Hayes (15’), Mackenzee Vance (20’, 35’), Isabella Quintana (24’), and Jisette Baquette (63’) all scored for USA while Boca’s goals came courtesy of Andrea Rivas (44’) and Madison Young (82’).
