DALLAS, Texas (Via Dallas Cup) – The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup has announced that current champion Tigres will return to defend their Super Group titles at the Dallas Cup’s 40th Anniversary tournament next spring. In 2018, the historic Mexican side won the championship in both the Gordon Jago Super Group, and the Univision Deportes Super 14s brackets.

Tigres is one of the most successful clubs in Dallas Cup history, having won thirteen championships across all age groups. This past April, Tigres hoisted the club’s third U19 Super Group “Boot and Ball” championship trophy, after defeating Premier League side Arsenal FC 1-0 in the title match. The Mexican side also claimed Super Group titles in 2003 and 2011. Next April, they will look to repeat as champions of the tournament’s elite bracket, a feat achieved by only 4 teams since the creation of the U19 Super Group in 1990.

The 2018 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup marked the inaugural tournament featuring the Univision Deportes Super 14s bracket. Tigres secured the Super 14s title after an impressive 2-1 win over Spain’s Real Oviedo. The club was dominant en route to securing the title, scoring 15 goals while conceding just the lone goal in the final.

Dr Pepper Dallas Cup’s 40th anniversary tournament will be played April 14-21, 2019.
