Drew Carey adds another ‘W’ to Wondo’s U.S. MNT jersey

U.S. Soccer super fan Drew Carey is making Chris Wondolowski’s hat trick last night count even more, donating $5,000 for two charities in exchange for his game-worn jersey from the USA’s 6-1 win against Belize in its opening group match of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The jersey has special significance because the name on the back had an extra “W”, a fact that no one – even Wondolowski himself – noticed before kickoff.

“I was as amused as anyone to see Chris What’s-his-name name spelled incorrectly on the back of his jersey while he scored a hat trick for the National Team against Belize in the Gold Cup. Thought it would make a great souvenir,” Carey said.

Serving as an Ambassador to both programs, “Wondo” has chosen Nike N7 FUND and Soccer Streets USA to receive $2,500 each.

“I’m grateful to Drew for the generous donation,” said Wondolowski.” It was a very special night for me and the team. I really wanted to keep the jersey, but in the end it turns out the price is right.”

The N7 Fund provides grants to Native American and Aboriginal communities in support of sport and physical activity programs for youth. The goal is to help unleash a child’s potential through the power of sport. Since Nike launched its N7 Collection in 2009, more than $2 million has been raised for Native American and Aboriginal youth sport programs through the N7 Fund.
