MORAGA, Calif. (Via Saint Mary’s College) — Women’s soccer head coach Travis Clarke has named Saint Mary’s alumnae Anne Whipple as his new assistant coach in preparation for the upcoming season. Whipple returns to Moraga after playing for the Gaels from 2012-15.

After graduating in 2015, Whipple stayed on with the Gaels’ staff as a volunteer assistant for the 2016 campaign. Whipple then spent a year as an assistant with Div. II Central Washington before returning to the Bay Area to help coach San Ramon FC.

“I am really excited for the opportunity to coach Division I soccer, especially at a place where I spent my collegiate career,” said Whipple. “I am looking forward to learning and growing as a coach while giving back to the student-athletes.”

In addition to assisting with team and individual training, Whipple will also be responsible for recruiting, alumnae relations, internal operations, and camps.

“We are very excited to have Anne back on staff with us,” said Clarke on his new assistant. “She is a driven, young coach who will make our program better in a lot of ways. Her attention to detail and work ethic are evident and her ability to connect with the players will be valuable to our program moving forward. I truly feel Anne is one of the bright young stars in the coaching profession.”

Saint Mary’s begins its spring schedule on March 31 against Stanislaus State. More information on the Gaels’ spring games can be found here.
