EDP Foundation brings league games to Hood College in Md.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ (Via EDP Soccer) – On Sunday, May 5, the EDP Foundation hosted three games on the campus of Hood College in Frederick, MD.  Two boys’ 18U games and one girls’ 17U contest were held, giving teams and players the chance to experience the feel of playing on a college field.

“It was exciting to play on a college field,” Maryland Elite ’01 (MD) Head Coach Rene Rodriguez said.  “Just talking to some of the players and the team before kickoff, they really gave off the vibe that ‘Wow!  This is the next level.’ It made us want to play better as individuals and as a team.”

Maryland Elite went on to post a 3-0 win over Leesburg FC 01B (VA).  In the other boys’ game, Alliance Soccer (Argonauts) Premier 01 (MD) defeated Columbia Bulldogs Premier (MD) by a score of 4-3.  The 17U girls’ game went to HMMS Impact Eagle FC (PA-E), 3-1 over Potomac Gray Lightning 02 (MD).

However, the result was not the objective.  The primary purpose was to provide players and their families with the opportunity to play on a college soccer field and be exposed to the college campus atmosphere.

“I think it gave a college-like feel to the game,” Alliance (Argonauts) Head Coach Tim Novotny noted.  “Not all the EDP games are like that. The players were there to impress coaches, and I think they did that.”

This was the second stop for the EDP Foundation League Games on Campus Program this year.  The next event is scheduled for June 2 at Drew University.

“The EDP Foundation provides a fantastic opportunity for players to experience a college campus environment while playing for their club side,” Hood College Head Men’s Coach Kenny Putnam stated.  “For one team, it was the first time any of their players had ever been to a college campus. I hope we can host games again in the near future. We really enjoyed the day and having the EDP Foundation at Hood College!”
