Seton Hall women’s soccer program signs 4 players for 2019

South Orange, N.J. (Via Seton Hall University) – The Seton Hall women’s soccer program and head coach Ciara Crinion has announced the signing of four incoming student-athletes for 2019: Blair Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand), Laura Hooper (Watford, England), Harpa Jóhannsdóttir (Akureyri, Iceland) and Saga Lif Sigurdadottir (Akureyri, Iceland).


Blair Currie | GK | Christchurch, New Zealand | IMG Academy

Blair Currie comes to The Hall following one year at IMG Academy, where she was a member of the NPL league-winning U19 National Elite Girls Team. She attended Christchurch Girls’ High School in 2014 and St. Andrews College from 2015-18. Currie was a member of the New Zealand U-17 National Women’s Soccer team in 2018, and went on to win a bronze medal at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay. She won the National Women’s League Championship as a member of Canterbury United Pride. The New Zealand native was named Mainland Football Federation Senior Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Cashmere Technical FC Young Female Player of the Year. Also in 2018, Currie played on the U-17 Waimakoariri United squad that won the U-17 Youth National Tournament.

Laura Hooper | Midfield | Watford, England | Queens School (Seattle U)

Laura Hooper lands in South Orange after a two-year stint at Seattle University where she made 13 starts and appeared in 29 games for the Redhawks. In 2018, she totaled three goals and three assists, and as a freshman scored two goals. Prior to her time in the states, Hooper was a four-year member of the Arsenal Youth program. She was also part of the Arsenal U-20 team coached by soccer legend and Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer Kelly Smith ’97. Hooper appeared in 23 matches for the English Youth National Team, helping her home country to the quarterfinals of the 2016 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Jordan. She also was part of the U-19 English squad, and competed in 27 matches including European qualifiers against Kazakhstan, Wales and Slovakia.

Harpa Jóhannsdóttir | GK | Akureyri, Iceland | Menntaskolinn a Akureyri

Harpa Johannsdottir will join the Pirates after playing with the U-17 Iceland National Team, Hamrarnir, and POR/KA in Iceland. She was a two-time club champion and two-time cup champion with the U-19 teams, as well as the Icelandic Champion with the senior team (U-17). Johannsdottir was chosen the Player’s Player and Best Player with Hamrarnir in 2018.

Saga Sigurdardottir | Midfield | Akureyri, Iceland | Menntaskolinn a Akureyri

Saga Sigurdardottir will join the Seton Hall midfield after playing on the POR/KA club team in Iceland, where she was part of two championship squads. She was a member of the Iceland National Team U-17 and U-19, and is also a member of Hamrarnir in Iceland.
