US Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup 2019 – Day 2 Recap

WEST VIRGINIA — The 2019 US Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup is continued on Saturday with the second day of action in West Virginia. The five-day event, which takes place June 14-18, kicked off Friday with 12U through 18U Boys and Girls teams starting the action at the Shawnee Sports Complex and Barboursville Soccer Complex.

The event features more than 100 US Youth Soccer boys and girls teams competing for a regional title and a chance to advance to the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, July 10-14 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Preliminary games will continue through Sunday, June 16. Semifinal matches will take place on Monday, June 17. Regional champions will be crowned following final matches on Tuesday, June 18. The semifinal and final matches will be played at the Shawnee Sports Complex.

West Virginia Youth Soccer Association is hosting the event, and the 14 other East Region State Associations include Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Eastern New York, New York West, Eastern Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania West, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia.

It took a hard-fought battle for Alliance Premier (MD) to earn their second victory of the tournament. The team was able to grind to the end with mental toughness to earn the victory. Head coach Neil Pain knows the team will have to bring the intensity as they look to advance further.

“It is wonderful to be here at this great facility. The team is playing well, and I am so proud of each of them. There was great competition today and we are happy to continue to see what we can do,” said head coach Neil Pain. “It is about bringing intensity and making sure we are moving the ball well. It is important for us to be sharp mentally. We looked very comfortable today and if we can keep doing that, I think we have a good shot of going all the way. Tennessee looks good to me.”

The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup offers teams the challenge of experiencing different types of play by competing from state to regional to national levels. The Presidents Cup provides teams with a progressive, competitive experience that highlights competition, camaraderie and community.

Highlights from Saturday:

12U Boys
Beadling South White (PA-W) earned their first win of the tournament with a 2-1 win against SAC Premier White (MD). In the middle of the first half, Andrew Prunier scored to give Beadling the lead in the 12th minute. A minute into the second half, Beadling took a 2-0 lead off a goal from Brayden MillerBashir Abou brought SAC within one in the 55th minute, but Beadling held on for the win. Beadling sits in second in Group B after two days of play. 

13U Girls
Century V West (PA-W) secured a spot in the 13U Girls semifinals after a 3-2 win over Epic 06 United (WV). Century’s Kamela Ward scored five minutes into the game to give them the quick lead. Peyton Miller found the back of the net for the equalizer in the 18th minute and four minutes later Sydney Davis gave Epic the lead. With five minutes left in the first half, Lauren Muhanna scored the tying goal for Century to send the game to halftime tied. Ward netted her second score of the day, 13U Girls leading fifth goal of the tournament, and the winning goal 10 minutes into the second half. Century is 2-0 heading into the final day of preliminary play.

14U Boys
Loudon 05B Black (VA) is advancing to the 14U Boys semifinals after posting a shutout, 3-0, against Hamilton Vipers (NJ). Christopher Guevara netted his first goal of the tournament with nine minutes left in the first half, giving Loudon the 1-0 lead after 45 minutes of action. Five minutes into the second half, Eeshwar Nathan scored the insurance goal and 10 minutes later the lead was extended to two with a goal from Liam Bhimji for his 14U Boys leading fourth goal of the tournament.

15U Girls
Victory Express (PA-W) sits atop the Group A standings after finishing, 2-0, over Pipeline 2004 G SC Black (MD). With just eight minutes left in the first half, Emma Herriott fired one passed the goalkeeper to give Victory the lead. Madelynne Schweiger scored the insurance goal just before halftime. Victory was able to hold on to the 2-0 lead as they earned their first win of the tournament. 

16U Boys
Alliance Premier (MD) moved remains undefeated and secured a spot in the 16U Boys semifinals after topping HSA Hooligans (PA-W), 3-0. Alliance took control from the first whistle, ripping a shot at the net in the first minute and three in the first 10 minutes of play. A free kick in the 13th minute was converted by Ryan Davis to give Alliance the early lead. Just minutes later, HAS had a chance at the equalizer but Dylan Miller made the save for Alliance. Joseph Mastri had a breakaway late in the first half as he applied pressure to Miller who made the kick save to keep Alliance ahead going to halftime. Alliance kept on the attack in the second half as they extended their lead to two on a goal from Mauricio Gallegos in the 64th minute after he controlled the ball in the box. Five minutes later, Gallegos netted his second goal of the day to give Alliance the three-goal lead.

17U Girls
Rage United SC Extreme (PA-E) is in second place after earning a 1-0 victory against Twin County SA Storm ((NJ). Rage United opened the game on the attack quick, firing two shots in the first 10 minutes of action. Twin County had a chance to take the lead in the middle of the half when Bridget Dudas fired one at the net, Alyson Riggle made the save to keep them off the board. The game went to halftime scoreless after Brenna DeVoe made three late saves for Twin County. Rage United came out of halftime fast with a shot on goal in the first minute that was saved. After forcing the Twin County goalkeeper to make two more saves, Rage United took the lead in the 69th minute when Emerson Coyne scored the lone goal.

18U Boys
In a game that saw limited opportunities, PWSI 01 Red Boys (VA) earned a hard fought 1-0 win over Ambassadors FC (PA-W). PWSI took control early firing two shots in the middle of the first half that missed left and high of the goal. Ambassadors had a chance to strike first late in the first half, but the PWSI goalkeeper made a kick save to keep them off the board. Minutes later, back to back shots by Ambassadors missed the goal to send the game to halftime knotted at zero. The Ambassadors missed a chance early in the second half to get on the scoreboard that was followed by a PWSI chance that was saved. The lone goal of the game came in the 75th minute by way of Christopher Benitez
