New Mexico State women’s soccer hires Rob Baarts as goalkeeper coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State head women’s soccer coach Rob Baarts shored up his staff with the addition of veteran goalkeeper coach Brian Periman, Baarts announced Wednesday.

“I cannot even begin to say how fortunate we are to have someone with Brian’s experience joining our NM State coaching staff,” Baarts said. “Brian is an exceptional goalkeeper Coach that also brings tremendous experience in several areas.  He will immediately have an impact with video analysis and his attention to detail.  Brian will also help greatly with national recruiting as he is a US Soccer scout for the Central Region.  This will widen our recruiting reach over the next several years.  Needless to say we are incredibly excited to welcome Brian to the Aggie Soccer family!

Periman brings a wealth of coaching and talent-evaluation experience to Las Cruces. He most recently served as an assistant coach at Florida International and as a talent identification scout for the US Soccer Federation. Prior to his time in Miami, the Tucson, Ariz., native spent the 2014-2016 seasons on staff at ECU while he also served as the Region III Goalkeeper Staff Coach and the head coach for the 04 girls of the North Carolina Olympic Development Program.

“I would like to thank Coach Baarts and NM State for this opportunity,” Periman said. “I am very excited to work with Coach Baarts and Coach Guante to build the NM State women’s soccer program into a championship-level program.”

The Menlo College graduate also served on staff at High Point (2013), Arizona (2010 and 2012) and Florida Atlantic (2011). Before making the switch to college athletics, Periman spent the 2010 season with the Arizona Rush of the Women’s Professional Soccer League. In his lone season in Tucson, he helped guide the Rush to the U23 National Championship.

After playing for Menlo, Periman played professionally, spending three seasons with the San Jose Frogs of the United Soccer League (2008-10) and one season with F.C. Tucson (2011). He also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Menlo.
