St. John’s women’s soccer announces coaching staff updates

With the start of the 2019 St. John’s women’s soccer season just over a week away, Head Coach Ian Stone has announced a pair of updates to his staff.

After playing four seasons for the Red Storm, 2018 graduate Alexa Dolgos returns to her alma mater as a student assistant coach. Additionally, the Johnnies add a new face in Stuart Dick, former assistant coach for the women’s soccer team at Fairfield University. Dick will serve as the program’s volunteer coach.

During her time at St. John’s, Dolgos served as a key component to the Johnnies’ defensive unit. Over her four seasons with the program, the Bethpage, N.Y., native saw action in 62 matches, earning 28 starts.

As a freshman, the 5-foot-5 defender contributed to a St. John’s backline that set program highs for wins with 15 and shutouts with 12. During her sophomore campaign on the pitch, Dolgos saw action in 19 matches, as she helped the Red Storm tie its record of 12 shutouts for the second-straight season.

Over her final two years with the program, Dolgos played in a combined 35 matches, helping the Red Storm to 17 wins.

Dick brings an immense amount of experience to the Red Storm staff at both the collegiate level and on the club circuit. The Scotland native has served as the head coach for CFC United U16 and U18 NPL for the last three years.

From 2015-17, Dick served as an assistant coach at Fairfield. During his tenure with the Stags, Dick organized all practice sessions throughout the fall and spring seasons and also performed many video coordination responsibilities. In addition, Dick aided with the recruitment of student-athletes.

Prior to his time at Fairfield, Dick spent the 2014 season on Yale’s women’s soccer staff and was solely responsible for coaching the team’s defense and working with their goalkeepers. During his time with the Bulldogs, the program posted an 8-4-4 overall record and allowed just 0.82 goals per game.

Before heading up to New Haven, Conn., Dick was a graduate assistant at Bridgeport for four years. During his tenure, the Purple Knights went 59-13-8 and won the 2013 Conference Tournament after winning the regular season crown in 2012 and 2013. During Dick’s time with Bridgeport, the program advanced the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in three-straight seasons.

Dick spent his playing career at Northwood University in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he helped the Seahawks to the 2006 conference championship, before advancing to the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament.

The St. John’s women’s soccer team kicks off the regular season with a trip to Harrisonburg, Va., for the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational at Sentara Park. The Johnnies will begin play on Thursday Aug. 22 with a contest against Cincinnati before taking on JMU on Aug. 25.
