Tab Ramos steps down as U.S. Men’s Youth Technical Director and U-20 USMNT head coach
CHICAGO (Oct. 25, 2019) – Tab Ramos will step down from his position as U.S. Soccer’s Men’s Youth Technical Director and U-20 Men’s National Team head coach to assume the head coaching role at Major League Soccer (MLS) club Houston Dynamo.
“I want to thank U.S. Soccer for the opportunity to help build and guide the Men’s Youth National Team program,” said Ramos. “The coaches and staff contributed a great deal to the unprecedented success we enjoyed at all levels. I am especially proud of the players. They were not afraid to push their limits to take the program to unchartered territory.”
Ramos guided the USA to four consecutive U-20 World Cups during his tenure, advancing to three consecutive FIFA U-20 World Cup quarterfinals. In 2017 and 2018, Ramos led the USA to consecutive Concacaf U-20 Championship titles, its first two confederation crowns.
“Tab did a fantastic job guiding our Men’s Youth National Team program and earned unmatched success with our Under-20 Men’s National Team,” said U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro. “We thank him for his tireless dedication and achievements during the past eight years and wish him all the best as a head coach in Major League Soccer.”
Ramos joins a number of coaches who have developed their careers with the U.S. Youth National Teams before moving to head coaching positions in MLS, including Peter Nowak, Wilmer Cabrera and John Hackworth.
“Tab helped continue the progress of our men’s youth program and heavily contributed to the international development of some of our most promising National Team players,” said U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Earnie Stewart. “We appreciate all of his hard work over the years and look forward to seeing him coaching in the professional ranks during the next chapter of his career.”
One of the most accomplished figures in U.S. Soccer, Ramos made history at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup by becoming the first male to participate in 11 FIFA world championship tournaments as a player or coach.
