Fall championships canceled for NCAA Division II and Division III soccer

Both the NCAA Division II and Division III Presidents Councils announced that all fall sports championships are canceled.

Division II cited “operational, logistical and financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic” as the reasons for the decision. Similarly, Division III cited “health and safety of the division’s student-athletes, coaches, athletics administrators and communities,” along with “administrative and financial challenges” related to the pandemic.

These announcements came shortly after the NCAA revealed a new comprehensive set of requirements for all divisions, which would have been highly difficult for Division II and Division III to meet financially. The extensive requirements include health and safety regulations which can only realistically be afforded at the Division I level.
