Virginia Tech women’s soccer unveils challenging 2020 schedule

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women’s soccer head coach Charles “Chugger” Adair has announced the team’s 2020 schedule, a slate that features a total of a dozen matches, eight against teams that made last year’s NCAA tournament. The Hokies’ season begins next Saturday with a road contest at in-state rival Virginia.

In all, Tech will play a total of 11 matches against ACC opponents, however just eight of those will count towards league standings as each ACC school is playing an eight-game conference schedule (four home and four road matches). Rounding out the schedule are four non-conference matches – two in total against the Cavaliers, a home-and-home series, one game at Duke and a home match against Navy.

“We’re excited about this schedule and we’re happy we get a chance to play in these difficult times. We’re also very appreciative that the presidents, the ADs, and the ACC have given us this opportunity to play this season,” Adair said. “This is a very competitive schedule and we’ll be playing some high-quality opponents. We’re just excited and looking forward to facing real-life competition and getting back to playing in the ACC.”

Tech has six homes games with its home opener set for Friday, September 25 against Virginia. Its first home league game will be against Florida State on Thursday, October 1. Pittsburgh (Oct. 4), Miami (Oct. 15), Louisville (Oct. 18) and the match against the Mids (Oct. 24) completes the Hokies’ home slate.

Road ACC matches for Tech include at Clemson (Sept. 17), North Carolina (Sept. 20), Wake Forest (Oct. 29) and Boston College (Nov. 1), while the Hokies take on the Blue Devils on October 9.

The top eight teams at the end of the regular season will make the ACC Championship tournament which will be held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. Quarterfinals are set for Tuesday, Nov. 10, followed by the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 13, while the championship will be Sunday, Nov. 15.
