Loyola Chicago men’s soccer adds defender Marc Torrellas on transfer

CHICAGO – Loyola University Chicago head men’s soccer coach Neil Jones announced the addition of Marc Torrellas (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Sarria/Merrimack College) to his roster on Thursday.

Torrellas, who arrives in Rogers Park from Merrimack College, will have three years of eligibility remaining.

“We’re very excited to welcome Marc to Loyola,” Jones said.  “Not only is he a top quality player who will make our team better, but our conversations with him have also confirmed that he fits our program’s core values of being an intense competitor, while having a team first mentality and fantastic attitude.”

Torrellas is fresh off a terrific freshman season in which the Warriors finished with an unblemished 9-0-0 record in Northeast Conference (NEC) play en route to an 11-3-2 overall mark.  The 6-foot-0 defender was a fixture in the Merrimack lineup, starting in all 16 games as he headlined a defensive unit that closed the year with a sparkling 0.72 goals against average.

A native of Barcelona, Spain, Torrellas also made an impact in the offensive third, finding the back of the net three times in addition to dishing out an assist.  At the conclusion of the season, he was named a First Team All-NEC selection and also earned a spot on the conference’s All-Rookie Team.

Loyola is slated to 19 letterwinners for its upcoming season, a group that includes five All-Missouri Valley Conference selections from a 2019 team that finished 11-5-4 overall (5-2-3 MVC) and made the program’s fifth NCAA Tournament appearance.
