VYSA hosts U.S. Soccer ‘Accelerating Women in Coaching’ courses

LOUDOUN, VA — This December, Loudoun Soccer Park was the site of U.S. Soccer’s ‘Accelerating Women in Coaching’ courses.

The Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) in partnership with Women and Girls in Soccer (WAGS) announced that they have been awarded a three-year grant in U.S. Soccer’s Innovate to Grow Program that will work to increase the participation of women in coaching within Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The program entitled ‘Accelerating the Participation of Women in Coaching’ offers tuition-free 7v7, 9v9, 11v11 and D licenses to qualified female candidates across Virginia and D.C. All of the courses are be taught by female instructors and offer childcare services/stipends for qualified candidates.

“We were so proud to partner with VYSA, WAGS and US Soccer for this course. We want a culture that is inclusive of everyone and where everyone who joins feels they have opportunities to succeed and grow. This is certainly the case for our female coaches.”

– John O’Hara, Loudoun Soccer Director of Coaching

“This is an excellent opportunity for female coaches who are interested in furthering their coaching abilities. The content and curriculum of this course is aimed at enhancing and adding to their skill set. In turn, these coaches will help develop better players in the future. Our all-female VYSA instructional staff is some of the best anywhere.”

– Gordon Miller, VYSA Technical Director

“As a young female coach it was great to get the opportunity to both meet and learn form other female coaches in the area. Throughout both my club and college career I didn’t have the chance to work with many female coaches, so it’s nice to see the number is growing and programs like Loudoun Soccer and VYSA are helping to facilitate that.”

– Ayan Adu, Loudoun Soccer Coach
