Former Loyola Marymount head coach Michelle Myers joins Oregon State staff
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women’s soccer team has added an experienced assistant coach to its staff, as the Beavers have welcomed Michelle Myers to the program, head coach Matt Kagan announced.
“I am so excited to have this opportunity to bring Michelle to Corvallis to work with our amazing women’s soccer group,” Kagan said. “Michelle is first and foremost an amazing human being. She is selfless, understanding, and will provide our staff with great balance. Michelle’s vast experience as both an assistant and head coach will lend perfectly to providing our student athletes with great knowledge and perspective. OSU Women’s Soccer just got better!”
Myers joins the Beavers after spending the last 24 seasons at Loyola Marymount, including eight as head coach. The hiring will be a reunion for Myers and Kagan, who worked together on the LMU staff from 2014-16.
During her tenure as head coach at of the Lions, Myers racked up a total of 63 wins. She led LMU to an NCAA Sweet 16 berth in 2015, earning West Coast Conference Coach of the Year honors that season. The Lions notched 26 all WCC selections during her tenure as head coach.
Myers helped Loyola Marymount consistently bring in some of the top recruits in the nation during her tenure. As an assistant, she helped guide the Lions to their first ever College Cup appearance in 2002.
Myers has been an active member of the Cal South Olympic Development Program (ODP) since 1996. Myers has led her teams to 10 ODP regional championships and three national titles including the most recent one in March 2011 with the 94 Cal South girls.
Before moving to the college ranks, Myers spent three seasons guiding one of the top prep girl’s soccer programs in Southern California at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana. Under her helm (1992-95), the Monarchs amassed a three-year record of 46-20-11, including back-to-back South Coast League Championships in 1994 and 1995.
An outstanding collegiate player, Myers helped her team to a record of 46-17-10 during four seasons at Santa Clara.
The Beavers posted a record of 11-6-2 in 2019, the program’s first season under Kagan. It marked the highest win total for an Oregon State squad since 2012. The Beavers will return eight starters from last year’s squad.
