SMU men’s soccer announces signing of three transfers

DALLAS – SMU men’s soccer announced the addition of three transfers, JT D’Emidio, Roman Knox and Eben Noverr, to its 2020-21 roster.

“We are thrilled to welcome JT, Roman and Eben to SMU,” head coach Kevin Hudson said. “They are outstanding young men who will be strong additions to our roster.”

Originally from McKinney, Texas, midfielder JT D’Emidio found his way back to the DFW area after playing two seasons at Air Force. In 2019, he played in all 19 matches with 16 starts. He totaled four goals, one game-winning, and 29 total shots. As a freshman in 2018, D’Emidio made 16 appearances, recording one goal and five assists for seven points, the most by any freshman. He went on to be named to the WAC All-Freshman Team and the Air Force Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year.

“JT is a dynamic wide player who possesses the pace and quickness to unbalance an opposition’s back line,” Hudson said. “He is comfortable attacking 1v1 or combining with teammates. We are excited to welcome him to SMU.”

Roman Knox joins the Mustangs as a midfielder from the University of North Carolina. Before his time with the Tar Heels, the Shawnee, Kansas native played club soccer with Sporting KC Academy and recorded 17 goals over 70 appearances with the team.

“Roman is an intelligent central midfielder who can set the rhythm and tempo of a game with his passing and decision making,” Hudson said. “He is constantly looking for the ball and helping the team build the game. We believe his skill set is a natural fit at SMU.”

Eben Noverr comes to the Hilltop from Virginia and will assist SMU’s back line this upcoming season. From Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Noverr played club soccer for Real Colorado and Colorado Rapids before joining the Cavaliers. He participated in team camp for the U-16 and U-17 National Team in 2016 and was named to the Central Conference Best XI U-15/16 team while with the Rapids.

“Eben is a tall and technically gifted central defender,” Hudson said. “His competitive nature and composure on the ball will make him a great addition to our back line.”

The Mustangs open the 2020-21 conference-only season at Memphis on Feb. 6 and host their first home match on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. CT versus Tulsa.
