D.C. United appoint Sean Howe as new Director of Scouting

Washington, D.C. – D.C. United have announced the appointment of Sean Howe as the club’s new Director of Scouting, after working as a scout for fellow Major League Soccer side, Atlanta United FC, for the previous three seasons.

Howe will be responsible for organizing and managing the Black-and-Red’s scouting network to better identify and recruit local, regional, national, and international soccer talent. He will also play a role in identifying prospective players for D.C. United’s United Soccer League (USL) affiliate, Loudoun United FC.

“Adding Sean to our technical staff to lead our scouting network is another important step for the club as we continue to invest in our infrastructure,” Lucy Rushton, D.C. United General Manager, said. “I worked extensively with Sean during our time in Atlanta and his ability to identify exciting talent is top-class.”

Howe started his scouting career with Atlanta United in December 2018 and was an integral part of the backroom staff that assembled the Atlanta roster. During his time in Atlanta, Howe worked under Atlanta United Technical Director, Carlos Bocanegra, Head of International Player Recruitment and Development, Jonathan Spector, along with Rushton, to determine Atlanta’s key roster needs and identify potential transfer targets to bolster their squad.

Howe, who has his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Coaching A License, started his career as an academy coach for Inter Atlanta FC in Georgia in Aug. 2012. In Jan. 2018, Howe became the Director of Player Development at the youth soccer club. During his time with Inter Atlanta, Howe was also a coach for Georgia’s Olympic Development Program.
