University of Tennessee alum Bunny Shaw signs with Manchester City

MANCHESTER, England — The most prolific scorer in Tennessee Soccer history will continue her professional career at Manchester City, as the club announced the signing of former Vol Bunny Shaw on Thursday. The Jamaican international has agreed to a three-year deal and will move to the club’s Academy Stadium at the start of July.

The 24-year-old striker will head to England following an impressive stint in France with FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Shaw tallied 32 goals for the club in her first two seasons as a professional and finished the 2020-21 campaign as the league’s top scorer with 22 tallies, helping the FCGB Women place third in D1 Arkema to earn a berth to the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Shaw was recently recognized on ESPN’s list of top 50 women’s footballers in the world, checking in at No. 31.

The Manchester City women currently compete in the FA Women’s Super League and finished second on the table with a 17-1-4 record in 2020-21. The club has also shown prowess on the European stage, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2020-21 UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Scoring 27 goals in 35 appearances for the Vols from 2017-18, Shaw finished her two-year career on Rocky Top as the program’s all-time leader in goals per game (0.77) and points per game (1.86). The forward from Spanish Town, Jamaica, led the Big Orange to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including UT’s first-ever run to the national quarterfinals as a senior in 2018.

A two-time first team All-SEC honoree, Shaw was named the 2018 SEC Offensive Player of the Year and became UT’s seventh All-American later that season—earning second team honors from the United Soccer Coaches. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies in May of 2019 before embarking on her professional career.
