Creighton women’s soccer program announces roster additions
Omaha, Neb. – Coming off the first appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament last season (2020), Creighton women’s soccer head coach Ross Paule continues to upgrade the Bluejay roster with the signings of transfer Paityn Bretzer (Southeastern Louisiana) and Iceland native Hildur Björg Kristjánsdóttir for the 2021 season.
A native of Canada (Edmonton, Alberta), Bretzer is a forward that comes to Creighton with two years of eligibility remaining. She played two seasons with the Lions, appearing in 28 matches and earning eight starts. She delivered a pair of assists in 2020 and two more in 2019.
Before coming to Southeastern Louisiana, Bretzer spent one season (2018) at Navarro Junior College (Corsicana, Texas) and redshirted the 2017 season while attending Northwestern State (Natchitoches, La.). At Navarro, Bretzer appeared in 19 matches with 14 starts. She finished the 2018 season with four goals and five assists.
A defender, Kristjánsdóttir comes to the Bluejays after spending five seasons with the KR Reykjavík Women’s team (a very prestigious premier league club) in Iceland. She did not play in 2019, but appeared in 10 matches during 2020 and nine in 2021. An all-around athlete, Kristjánsdóttir trained in gymnastics and soccer from a young age. In 2016 she was part of a squad that claimed the USA Cup Championship.
“I am excited to welcome Hildur and Paityn to our already strong group. Both are talented versatile players, very athletic, and bring a strong work ethic on the pitch and in the classroom,” noted Paule. “They both have great potential to have a positive influence in both our attack and defense.”
