Syracuse men’s soccer completes 2021 recruiting class

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse head men’s soccer coach Ian McIntyre has completed his 2021 recruiting class with the addition of a talented striker from Germany and five transfer student-athletes.

“It is a bigger class than most traditional years, but it is a very important recruiting class,” McIntyre said. “We have experienced challenges over the last 18 months or so with roster turnover and long-term injuries that have stretched our squad. We feel that this talented class provides us excellent depth and critical balance to our roster. This new group will need time to grow and evolve, but we will have exciting competition at each position within our team that we have perhaps lacked in recent years. Once again, we will have one of the toughest schedules in the country and we will learn a great deal about our group early in the campaign.”

See below for the program’s new recruits:

Biros played in 51 games for Akron with 41 starts during his three years with the Zips. He scored six goals and registered eight assists on the way to being twice selected to the All-Mid-American Conference Team. He scored the game winner against the three-time defending NCAA National Champion Stanford team to lead Akron to the 2018 College Cup. Prior to Akron he was a member of the Columbus Crew U16 and U18 Academy Team. Biros has two remaining years of NCAA eligibility.

“Colin has the technical ability, creativity, and college experience to make an immediate impact here at Syracuse University,” McIntyre said. “He is an intelligent, dynamic player with the ability to deliver the important final pass. Colin has caused us some real match-up problems in the past when we have played Akron, and I am looking forward to quickly integrating him into our team.”

Luke Biasi

Midfielder
GA

Biasi started in 41 games in his career at Memphis primarily as a fullback for the Tigers. This summer he is competing for the Southern Soccer Academy Kings in USL League Two. Biasi will be a graduate student at Syracuse for his final year of NCAA eligibility.

“Luke is a direct, powerful player who possesses the ability to go by opponents and provide excellent service from wide areas,” McIntyre said. “He is a talented, experienced player who has continued to develop within the very competitive American Athletic Conference. I have been very impressed every time that I have watched Luke play. He is brave, aggressive, and he is always trying to impose himself on each game.”

Daunhauer started in goal 38 times during his career at Kentucky Wesleyan. He was recently selected to the Great Midwest Athletic All-Conference First Team, and he was recognized as the 2020-2021 Goalkeeper of the Year. This summer he is leading the Atlantic City Aces into the NPSL playoffs. Daunhauer graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan in three years, and he will continue as a graduate student at Syracuse for his final two years of NCAA eligibility.

“We are thrilled to be able to add Lucas to our GK group,” McIntyre said. “He is an experienced keeper who has already played in a lot of college matches at Kentucky Wesleyan. Coach Flynn has been impressed with his technical ability, his excellent shot stopping, and he feels that Lucas possesses a wonderful calmness and presence as a keeper.”

Curti transfers from Marist College where he started in 35 games during his two years for the Red Foxes and scored three goals. He is a physical, athletic central defender who was recognized as a member of the All-MAAC Academic Team during his time at Marist. Prior to college he competed for Vaughan Azzurri in Ontario, and he will have two years of eligibility remaining at Syracuse.

“Christian is a very good soccer player who will fit in well to the style of play of our team,” McIntyre said. “He has been an important part of a very good, well-coached Marist College program. Christian follows some excellent Canadian defenders out of the Vaughan Azzurri program such as Kamal Miller and Nyal Higgins. I believe that Christian has both the physical and technical tools to make a similarly successful transition to the ACC.”

Sjoberg started in 26 games during his two years at Wofford and scored three goals. He was selected to the 2020-21 All-Southern Conference First Team, and he was a member of the 2019 Southern Conference All-Freshmen Team and All-Academic Team. He is a physical, technically composed central defender who is currently playing for SC United Bantoms, who are competing for a USL League Two Championship. Sjoberg will have three years of eligibility remaining at Syracuse.

“We are delighted to have Buster join us,” McIntyre said. “It is a real advantage to add such a talented, experienced defender to our group. He is an intelligent, composed player who will also add size and physicality to our team. Buster is a good communicator and a solid organizer of his defense. He possesses the drive and commitment to excel here at Syracuse.”

Rauch has been a member of the Borussia Dortmund U19 and U23 teams. He is a proven goal scorer at the youth level and was recruited to Borussia Dortmund from the respected Dusseldorf Academy where he established himself as the top goal scorer in the U17 Bundesliga.

“We are thrilled to add a player of Julius’ quality and pedigree to our program,” McIntyre said. “He brings us another terrific attacking option while providing us a dangerous focal point and an outlet through which to play. Julius complements our existing players, and he has the ability to score goals and create opportunities for his teammates. I am looking forward to seeing Julius in a Syracuse shirt this fall and he is very excited to prove himself within the ACC.”
