Lehigh women’s soccer team announces 7-player recruiting class
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head women’s soccer coach Eric Lambinus announced the Mountain Hawks’ incoming class of 2025 on Tuesday, featuring seven student-athletes from four different states and experience over the field. They’re set to head to campus this August for preseason ahead of the 2021 season this fall.
“The LUWS coaching staff is extremely excited to welcome our class of 2025,” said Lambinus. “In what has been one of the most challenging years, we believe our seven incoming student-athletes have not only adapted to the environment, but in many ways have also excelled in working towards becoming the best versions of themselves. While we have not spent as much time meeting or watching them play in person, we feel like we have gotten to know them in a different way. Soccer-wise, they will play in key positions for us and think many of them will impact our team right away on the field.”
See below for more information on each player:
Bobrow was a 2020 second team All-Ohio honoree and team captain out of the Hawken School in Ohio. The Hawken Girls Soccer leading scorer in 2020, Bobrow was named first team All-Greater Cleveland and first team All-Cuyahoga Valley Conference. Bobrow also competed in the US Youth Soccer National League with the Cleveland Force Soccer Club. She was also selected and attended the U.S. National Team Youth Soccer Training Centers.
Why Lehigh? “I chose Lehigh University because of the rigorous academics and extensive opportunities available on campus. The team culture and coaching style stood out to me as a great fit.”
Coach Lambinus on Bobrow: “Lindy is a natural left-footed player who can play several attacking positions. Teams can never have enough left-footed players on the field. She has a high level of technical ability, especially being able to strike a ball from distance. We think Lindy will fit in nicely as a wide player who can play both as an outside forward and wide midfielder. She has shown the ability to score goals and that is an area that will help our team.”
Flanegin was a four-year varsity starter and two-year varsity captain at Spring-Ford Area High School. A three-time first team All-PAC selection and two-time first team All-Area honoree, Flanegin was on the 2020 high school All-American Watch List. She helped her team to the 2020 PAC Championship, along with district finals in 2017 and 2020. Flanegin was a starter for her club team FC Delco, and an invitee to the Northeast PDP event. She was first team All-League (Northeast) and a US Soccer Training Center invitee. Also strong in the classroom, Flanegin was a four-year member of the honor roll, posting a 4.0 grade point average.
Why Lehigh? “Lehigh has the perfect combination of incredible academics and athletics I was looking for in a school. I felt immediately welcomed by the team and coaches, making it feel like a second home.”
Coach Lambinus on Flanegin: “We identified Hope early in the recruiting process as a great fit for our women’s soccer program. She displays all the necessary criteria to be a high-level box to box midfielder in the Patriot League and reminds of some of the really good ones we’ve had in our program like Gina, Adrian and Sabrina. We are looking forward to what personal traits she can bring to the position to make it her own.”
Judge was a three-year varsity starter and senior captain for Council Rock High School North. Named first team All-League as a senior and honorable mention All-League as a junior, Judge was her team’s leading scorer – and team MVP – senior year while playing holding midfield. She also played center midfield for her club team, SJEB Rush Girls Academy. Strong in the classroom, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Social Studies Honor Society. Judge was also on the distinguished honor roll all four years of high school.
Why Lehigh? “I chose Lehigh because of the impressive academics and competitive athletics. The campus is beautiful and very close to home.”
Coach Lambinus on Judge: “Sammy is a recruit we have watched for a long time at Lehigh and always thought she was the type of midfielder we like to recruit: highly technical, tough, high soccer IQ with strong work rate. Sammy has overcome a number of injuries during this time and think she has been playing her best soccer recently. We are looking forward to seeing how she competes in our environment.”
Lyght wrapped up a decorated career at Scotch-Plains Fanwood High School. A senior captain, she was named NJ.com third team All-State in 2019, along with NJ.com second team All-Group IV (for the second time). Lyght was named a United Soccer Coaches All-American in 2018 and Regional All-American in 2018 and 2019. She was a three-time Union County Girls Soccer Coaches Association All-Star, and first team Watchung Conference honoree. For three straight years, Lyght received North Section recognition from the NJ Girls Soccer Coaches Association, as her team finished top 20 in the North Section and state in 2018 and 2019. A Watchung Conference Champion in 2019 and 2020, Scotch-Plains won the Union County Championship in 2017 and 2018, and Group 4 North II Sectional Title in 2019. Also in 2019, Scotch-Plains became Group 4 state finalists for the first time in school history. Lyght has experience at the US Women’s Soccer Training Centers. A multi-sport athlete, she played basketball as a freshman and sophomore (when she served as a captain) and competed in track and field those years as well. This June, Lyght was part of a 4X400 relay team that took first place at the Meet of Champions in South Plainfield, New Jersey (posting a personal-best time of 3:43.73). In the classroom, Lyght was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a NJ State Interscholastic Athletic Association student representative and posted a weighted average GPA of 4.69 out of 4.80.
Why Lehigh? “I chose Lehigh because it fit from both an academic and athletic perspective. When I walked on campus, I felt right at home and I knew Lehigh was the place for me. I am so excited to be a part of this program.”
Coach Lambinus on Lyght: “How impressive is a student-athlete who scores a hat trick in the NJ Sectional Finals in the fall and wins the Meet of Champions in the 4×400 while setting a new PR in the spring? Corinne is an unbelievable competitor who not only works to be the best version of herself every day, but is also extremely humble and an incredible teammate. She can play multiple attacking positions for us soccer-wise and we look forward to finding the best spot for her to take advantage of her best qualities.”
A local product from Saucon Valley High School, Neveu was twice named the Olympique de Lyon (FRA) Camp MVP. She ran the Philadelphia Half Marathon, fundraising for Schyler Herman’s Schyler Strong Foundation. A NJ Futsal State Champion, Neveu also played club soccer for Penn Fusion. In the classroom, she was an AP Scholar, member of the National Honor Society and member of GIEP (Gifted Individualized Education Program). Neveu, who is bilingual (French/English) maintained the highest honor roll in her time at Saucon Valley.
Why Lehigh? “Choosing Lehigh was an easy decision for me. As soon as I stepped on campus for my visit, I felt extremely welcomed. The coaching staff also was incredibly supportive and carried me through my tough knee injury. It is an environment where I can be challenged both academically and athletically to better myself as an individual and I can’t wait to start the journey.”
Coach Lambinus on Neveu: “Apple is an absolute great fit for Lehigh, both on and off the field. We have always been impressed with her intelligence, commitment and determination as a student-athlete. Even as a recruit, we have recognized her ability to make a deep connection with everyone she meets. As a soccer player, she can play anywhere along the backline and has experience playing at the highest level with both Penn Fusion and PDA.”
Another Lehigh Valley product, Schutter was a standout at Parkland High School and Penn Fusion Academy DA & ECNL (from 2015-21). A Morning Call Area All-Star in 2018 and 2019, Schutter helped Parkland to the EPC and District 11 Championships, and a berth in the PIAA playoffs. In club soccer, she was the leading goal scorer and team captain for the Penn Fusion U15 DA Team. Schutter was named a Top Drawer Soccer Class of 2021 IMG Academy Top 150 Female Player, and four-star recruit. She played up with Penn Fusion 02 ECNL for the National Championship Playoffs. Schutter was a US Training Union Center member from 2014-16 and Philadelphia Union Junior Academy member from 2012-16. A Generation Adidas Select invitee, Schutter took part in the 2016 East Coast US Soccer Training Center Combine and was a member of the EPYSA ODP Team (2015-16). In the classroom, Schutter was a member of the high honor roll and National Honor Society.
Why Lehigh? “I chose Lehigh University because of its rich academic reputation and stepping on campus felt like home. Lehigh women’s soccer program strives for success on the field and in the class room. That’s why I chose to be a Mountain Hawk.”
Coach Lambinus on Schutter: “Zoe was another student-athlete we’ve seen play for a number of years and always thought she would be a perfect fit for our program. She can play multiple positions and always displays an incredible work rate, high technical ability, toughness and purpose in her play. Zoe has competed at the highest level with her Penn Fusion club team and should be able to make a smooth transition to the Patriot League.”
A Top Drawer Soccer Class of 2021 Top 150 player, Trainor was a co-leader of Smithfield High School (Rhode Island), helping the Lady Sentinels to the state semifinals for the fourth time in the last six seasons. Trainor also played club soccer with NEFC (New England Football Club). Off the field, she was a Write Rhode Island Short Story Winner and was published in Rhode Island’s Stranger Sagas. Trainor is a Rhode Island HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) Alumna and has served as vice president of the National Honor Society. She’s also a member of the National French Honor Society.
Why Lehigh? “I chose Lehigh University because I wanted to be challenged both academically and athletically while also being able to be a part of the tight-knit, loving community the Mountain Hawks are known for.”
Coach Lambinus on Trainor: “When we watched Abby play over the past few years, she displays the same qualities and reminds us of several of our past great goalkeepers at LUWS. She has soft hands, great technique, commands her area and field player abilities with her feet. What stood out about Abby was her competitive and coachability. At one of our clinics, she volunteered to play on the field when we were short players in a scrimmage and shut down one of the leading scorers that day. That was the moment we knew Abby was perfect for our program.”
