Xavier men’s soccer head coach Andy Fleming departs after 12 seasons

CINCINNATI – Xavier Athletics and Head Coach Andy Fleming have mutually agreed to part ways, Vice President and Director of Athletics Greg Christopher announced today.

“Xavier was and is the only school to ever have hired me to be their head coach. It was a perfect match and Xavier is the professional love of my life,” said Fleming. “This once dormant program was in the Top-25 in 10 of my 12 years, along with four NCAA bids, multiple conference championships and four Top-10 national rankings. At one point we also had the nation’s highest team GPA and fewest yellow cards, and five former assistants are now head coaches. Add the impact of Devin’s Team and we did a tremendous job reflecting the values of Xavier.

“Over the past few months I’ve had several conversations with administration about myself, my energy level, well-being and how both parties see the direction of the program. It’s time for new energy and a new voice and a new direction for me. I want to thank Brian HicksGreg Christopher, and Mike Bobinski for trusting me with the program. I’d also like to thank my wife Amy and our children for supporting me in what is a very demanding industry. The thing that’s better than being called Coach is Dad. Lastly my colleagues, assistant coaches, friends, players and their parents have been the wind behind my back and I’m grateful for them all. My heart is full and tank is empty and the program is in better shape than when I took over. Thank you to everyone and Go X.”

In 12 seasons as head coach, Fleming won 118 matches with a .589 winning percentage, both marks are the best in Xavier men’s soccer history.  Fleming received Big East Coach of the Year honors in 2014, and the Musketeers advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 that season.

“Everyone thanks Andy for his efforts and the successes he brought to Xavier Soccer,” said Christopher. “We wish Andy all the best with his next chapter. Looking forward, we expect that our Men’s Soccer team can compete for Big East championships.”

A national search will begin immediately.
