Girls Academy announces matchups for Champions League competition

The Girls Academy (GA) has announced the first-round matchups for the second event in their inaugural Champions League competition. The event will take place March 10-15, 2022 on the campus of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and champions will be crowned.

“After experiencing the level of play, the intensity of the competition, and the atmosphere in the GA Champions League event in December, it’s no wonder the players are fired up to compete in March,” said Amy Griffin, President of the Girls Academy and Director of OL Reign Academy. “This next round of games will most certainly be ramped up, and I’m grateful the GA is able to provide such a competitive platform for these deserving players and their clubs. I cannot wait to watch, and once again, be inspired in Florida.”

The March event will feature teams competing in a round of 16, quarterfinal, semifinal, and final match to determine the Champions League winner per age group for the 2021-2022 season. Teams advancing in each round will compete in the winner’s bracket while teams that do not advance will compete for club points in the consolation bracket.

In addition to each age group’s Champions League winner, an overall league-wide Club Champions League winner will be named based on results in the Champions League. The full Champions League event schedule with game times and field numbers will be released Tuesday, March 1st. The U14, U17, and U19 age groups will play between March 10-14 while the U13, U15, and U16 age groups will play between March 11- 15. First round match ups by age group are listed below.

“The Champions League has been great for the club, our GA teams and more importantly the players,” said Nick Burke, NEFC Girls Director of Coaching. “We have had the opportunity to compete against some of the best clubs, teams and players in the country. All the games have been very competitive and challenging. With YNT scouts and college coaches at every game, it has given the players at NEFC (and all teams/clubs in the competition) a great opportunity to showcase themselves. We are very excited to participate in the next Champions League event at IMG in March.”
