University of Minnesota signs All-American Megan Nemec on transfer from Loyola Chicago

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota head soccer coach, Erin Chastain, has announced her fourth transfer portal signee for the 2023 season in Megan Nemec (Loyola Chicago).

“I chose Minnesota because of the challenging atmosphere which is brought to life by the coaches and players,” said Nemec. “From speaking with the coaches and players and visiting the school I was able to see the potential for growth academically and athletically.”

In a breakout first season, Nemec made an appearance in all 20 matches. The freshman was named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and honored to the All-Valley Second and All-Freshman Teams. She led the Ramblers with a team-high 17 points (third overall in the Missouri Valley), six goals and five assists.

As a sophomore, Nemec started 10 of 11 matches, and was selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, while tabbing First Team All-Valley Accolades. She was named First Team All-Midwest Region by United Soccer Coaches, and led The Valley in points (15) and assists (9). Her nine assists tie her for the second most assists in a single season in Loyola women’s soccer history.

In a decorated third season with the Ramblers, Nemec started all 18 matches as a threat on offense. For her efforts, she was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second season in-a-row and was selected as a United Soccer Coaches All-American. In addition, Nemec was named First Team All-Midwest Region and First Team All-Valley. She secured a team high of eight goals and six assists.

Last season, Nemec was named a team captain. She started all 19 matches, tallying three assists while leading the team with four goals. The forward logged 1,531 minutes and competed a full 90 seven times.

As a prep, Nemec competed with the Windy City Pride, and led her team to the 2018 Presidents Day Cup Championship. She was a starter at Andrew High School, dishing out 58 goals and 29 assists during her career. A two-time All-State and three time All-Southwest Suburban Conference honoree, she led the Thunderbolts to two Class 3A Sectional Titles and was named Daily Southtown Girls Soccer Player of the Year following her senior season; after she racked up 23 goals and 13 assists.

Megan is a native of Tinley Park, Ill., and the youngest daughter of Kerry and Barb Nemec. She has four older siblings: Kelly, Shannon, Kerry, and Scott and plans to major in Business Marketing.
