New Troy University women’s soccer head coach Stuart Gore makes first signings
TROY, Ala. – Troy women’s soccer head coach Stuart Gore announced the joining of his first pair of signees, which include freshman Chloe Ward and Northwestern State transfer Delaney Wells.
The pair of signees join the seven of Danielle Trovato, Shelby Walling, Rubie Kelley, Leilani Fortuna-Ramos, Syanne Scharbrough, Cameron Koster and Carley White, that signed during the early signing stage in November.
Chloe Ward | Midfielder / Defender | Mansfield, Texas | Sting Soccer
Dawning the No. 3 when she arrives in Troy, Ward joins the Trojans after previously committing to Northwestern State. The midfielder / defender comes with Gore after playing at Lake Ridge High School and the Sting Soccer Program.
“Chloe’s athleticism and desire to get up and down the field is a must at our level,” Gore said. “Her attitude is that of always looking to get better every day. I’m looking forward to seeing her transition into the college game.”
While at Lake Ridge, the Mansfield, Texas native was a Texas All-State Academic Second Team member.
Delaney Wells | Midfielder | Flower Mound, Texas | Northwestern State
Born in Flower Mound, Texas, Wells was a member of the 6A District Championship team at Flower Mound High School. That season, Wells was named team captain and 6A All-District First Team while bringing her team to a 17-0-4 record. The season before, she was named to the first team with the No. 2-ranked team in Texas before COVID-19 ended her season.
“Delaney brings the experience of knowing what you have to do to win championships,” Gore said. “Her work rate and calmness are a huge asset to us. I consider myself extremely lucky to have coached her, and I’m overjoyed that she wanted to make the transition to play for Troy.”
Before Troy, Wells spent three seasons under Gore at Northwestern State, where she was named to the Southland All-Conference First Team (2022), Second Team (2021) and Commissioner’s Honor Roll (2020-2022). Wells was also a member of the 2021 Southland Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championship team.
In her three seasons as a Lady Demon, the junior scored five career goals, including three game-winners, while totaling 3,957 minutes with 47 starts – played in 52 games.
